Summary:Held triennially since 2004, "Roppongi Crossing" is an exhibition series that offers a comprehensive survey of the Japanese art scene. The 4th in the series, "Roppongi Crossing 2013" will inquire into the "current state" of Japanese contemporary art, referencing history and global perspectives and reflecting the social awareness that has clearly been heightened since the Great East Japan Earthquake and the triple disaster. What kinds of productive discussions can arise through art from the doubt now being expressed about all manner of generally accepted ideas and existing systems? Together with the audience, we will consider through the art practice of 29 artists and groups - mainly those born in the 1970s and '80s, but also including representatives from different generations and expatriate Japanese artists - the kind of landscape that will emerge in the next, unpredictable stage in Japan's history.
