Summary:"What is Brazilian contemporary art? In the euphoric times of a fully internationalized Brazilian circuit, this book does not aim to offer a definite, single, indisputable answer. On the contrary, the panorama that is presented here is polyphonic, incomplete, and fragmented, constructed through the work of 86 artists born between 1960 and 1985, both in and outside of Brazil. The proposed hypothesis was that Brazilian contemporary art is not necessarily produced by Brazilians but could in fact go beyond borders through the art of foreigners that somehow make reference to the country's culture. In choosing to give voice to the artists through interviews that accompany reproductions of their works, we opted not to attempt a history or an interpretation that connected them in movements, periods, or trends. In this sense, the title of this ABC is doubly deceiving: this is not an ABC of Brazilian contemporary art, nor is it organized alphabetically. The succession of artists presented here is ordered chronologically by their year of birth."--Page 7.
