"This publication, entitled Wallachia--History and culture, has its roots in an interdisciplinary conference featuring experts from various social sciences and humanities. The conference provided a forum for a new assessment and reflection of issues connected with the Wallachian region, as formulated by Jaroslav Štika in his monograph Wallachians and Wallachia: on the origin fo teh Wallachiains, the Wallachian colonization and the history of Moravian Wallachia (2007). The papers gathered in this publication address the latest developments, issues and contexts inspiring research in ethnography, historical sciences, linguistics, literary history, cultural history and cultural geography, focusing on a range of topics that formed the thematic freamework of the conference: interdisciplinary approaches and new interpretations of issues related to Wallachia; the process of Wallachian colonization and the formation of the population of Moravian Wallachia; the Wallachian landscape and its artistic depiction; relationships between literature and folklore, mythologization and de-mythologization; contemporary perceptions and significations of cultural experiences; issues of regional and individual identity." -- Page 537.
