Summary:Class 2 at Hotwells Primary School in Bristol are studying bugs. Their teacher, Kerry Smith, is using drama to encourage her young scientists to use their observations to write poetry; she uses drama as a tool to deliver elements of the renewed Primary Framework. Her pupils have been researching insects in the school garden and on the web. Now she introduces simple exercises regularly used by actors - mirror work , really looking and decision alley , to re-enact what her pupils have discovered about insects, and then to promote discussion about what they found. Kerry is the Literacy Subject Leader at Hotwells. She knows the school has a high proportion of boys and wants to promote techniques that encourage boys literacy skills; drama is one of them. She's found it gives boys the chance to talk before they put pencil to paper.
