Summary:A former teacher of the year shows John Bayley his how he lays down the ground rules with a challenging class. David Torn, has a reputation for being able to tame challenging classes. In this short programme, behaviour expert John Bayley observes David in action as he tackles the first day of school with a Year 9 class. David establishes his authority from the outset, vetting each pupil for smartness as they file through the door, then escorting them personally to their allotted seat. The rules are strict and the penalties severe: one warning for forgotten books and detentions thereafter draws groans from the class. But a hint of humour and a revelation from his past explains his exacting standards.
Target Audience:For Elementary School audiences.
