Summary:A Vietnamese American filmmaker journey's to her native Vietnam to observe and document her great-uncle's folk medicine practices. During her visit, Nguyen observes him treating many patients and making his medicines for tumors, leprosy, and infections. She also talks to his patients, to local doctors and herbalists, battles Vietnamese government censors who are fearful her footage might make them appear backward to the Western world, and ultimately realizes that through her investigation she has unwittingly begun to apprentice.
