Summary:The love story of Cupid and the princess Psyche is one of the most popular designs of the 16th century Italian art as numerous paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints show today. The fascination of the ancient myth now is exhibited at the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum. The exhibition is gathered around thirty known graphic works by Italian and Dutch artists of the 16th and 17th centuries. In the center of the myth is the mutual desire of the two protagonists; a love that tolerate the gods as long as her lover Psyche does not regard the act of love. The object of desire remains for them so in secret. The exhibition tells of the eventful history of the ancient drama, but also of its happy ending: Psyche is taken to Olympus among the immortals and may marry Amor. The exhibition was held at the Wallraff-Richartz Museum, Cologne, Germany, October 7 through December 10, 2015.
