Summary: | The National Museum of history (MHN), created in 1922, is one of the most important museums in Brazil, has a collection of thousands of pieces (among with the largest numismatic collection of Latin America), representing every chapter of Brazilian history. With text by historian Eduardo Junqueira and an extensive photographic essay by documentrian José Caldas, the book includes chronicles by Ana Arruda Callado, José Luiz Alquéres, Laurentino Gomes, Mary Del Priore, and French Dominique Poulot, and is divided into three thematic blocks. The first presents a photo essay about the landmark building that houses the National History Museum, one of the most significant of the city of Rio de Janeiro, dating back to the fortress of Santiago, built in the 17th century. The second part covers the emergence and history of the Museum, which holds today 80% of the entire Museum patrimony belonging to the Instituto Brasileiro de Museus of the Ministério da Cultura. The last part reproduces, in beautiful color images, the important pieces of the collection, on a timeline that follows Brazilian history.
