Summary:Harcourt recounts the attitudes incarcerated youths in expressed towards guns and gun ownership. He concludes that guns are used for protection and to gain power, as a commodity to sell and a means of commanding respect in their neighborhoods. He concludes by saying that when attempting to write gun laws and policies, it is necessary to understand the social significance and meaning of guns held by those who use them.
