Summary: | This is the first attempt to outline a detailed history of the visual arts in Baja California Sur. It was thus not only by the complexity of the issue, but by the actual scarcity of the information sources. On a selection of works by southern Californian "sudcaliforniano" artists of the last fifty years, art historian Reyna Jaime presents a history which starts forcefully in the cave painters of the peninsula, gives an overview of the colonial era and the porfiriato, and placed in the foreground the present vitality of painting in the state of Baja California Sur. Contains a large catalogue of local visual artists.
