Summary:Provides overview of the conservation reserve program (CRP), which provides payments to farmers to take highly erodible or environmentally sensitive croplands out of production to conserve soil and water resources. Addresses current issues, including 2008 farm bill, farm bill implementation issues, managed haying and grazing, haying and grazing for critical feed use, expiring CRP contracts and reenrollment and extension policy, rental rates for CRP acreage, contract termination and penalty fees, tax status of CRP payments, the effects of CRP on local rural economies, and CRP environmental effects.
