Summary:The 16th century main temple of the town of Santa María Tonantzintla in the State of Puebla is a jewel of Novo-Hispanic baroque. The decoration of the interior of the Church corresponds to the consistent Indian Baroque style of lush décor with Pre-Hispanic motifs, such as Angels with tufts of feathers, with garlands of flowers, with attires of the "Caballero Aguila" and with Indian features, fruits and plants, in a lavish mixture between the Pre-Hispanic and Spanish Christian worlds. This reprint edition -published in 1991 by the State Government and the University Iberoamericana Puebla- includes color images taken by photographers Ángela Arziniaga and Everardo Rivera.
