Summary:Annotation This volume reports on research presented during meetings held during 1998-1999 of the population and statistics committees of the editorial panel, which is part of the National Research Council. The studies were carried out by American researchers in conjunction with an international group of consultants. The chapters examine sources of data, health issues, intergenerational transfers, concepts and measures of well-being, private wealth and income security compared across nations, and retirement and pensions. Conclusions and recommendations for future avenues of research are offered. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com).
