Summary:"This book is designed mainly for parents, teachers, and social workers who are immediately responsible for the care and training of children. It deals wholly with every-day problems concerning the promotion of the physical, intellectual, social, and ethical development and welfare of childhood and youth. Parents and teachers have proposed most of the topics which are discussed herein. In all the discussion it has been the aim to apply the results of recent investigation in child study, child psychology, child hygiene, education, and juvenile delinquency to the problems which those who train the young in the home, in the school, or elsewhere have to solve every day, and to present interpretations and recommendations in such a concrete way and in such simple, non-technical terms that readers who have made no study of psychology, physiology or related sciences can understand what is said and make practical application of it to their special needs. This will account for the short chapters and the informal style in which the material is presented. It will account, too, for the absence of mere theoretical discussion of child nature or child training. Correspondents have made it clear to the author from time to time that they desired him to go straight to the mark in suggesting a solution of their problems, and to avoid philosophic or technical discussion"--Book.
