Summary: | Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).This book is a collection of peer reviewed papers presented under Symposium of Materials and Metallurgy in the 13th International Conference on Quality in Research (QiR) 2013 held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, June 25-28 2013. This special issue is devoted as useful dissemination to serve the need for exchange the knowledge, experience, review of the progress and recent developments in the broad field of materials engineering and manufacturing. Studies presented in this book cover the following topics: (i) Advanced and Composite Materials; (ii) Polymer and Ceramic Materials; (iii) Materials Manufacturing and Processes; (iv) Corrosion and Degradation of Materials; and (v) Extraction of Materials. The conference addressed advanced and composite materials, polymer and ceramic materials, materials manufacturing and processes, corrosion and degradation of materials, and the extraction of materials. The 96 peer-reviewed and selected papers consider such topics as synthesizing highly ordered titania through carbon dioxide supercritical extraction for dye-sensitized solar cell applications, lead-free oxide thin films for detecting gas, synthesizing and characterizing silica-lavender micro-encapsulation by the sol-gel-emulsion method for an anti-mosquito textile, characteristics of environmentally friendly labeled plastic shopping bags in Indonesia, surface hardening on local disk brakes with direct current plasma nitrocarbonizing apparatus, oxidation characteristics of various nickel composite coated on ferritic stainless steel, and submerged ultra-filtration for minimizing the energy used to treat refinery wastewater.
