Summary:Tells the story of the Western Sahara from colonialism, through a national liberation movement, to the dominant take over by Morocco and the current disputed sovereignty and legal status. Marked with grievous human rights abuses, dislodgement of thousands of Saharawis, Algerian government's ejection of thousands of Moroccans, UN actions, and large refugee camps, the modern political history of the Western Sahara is not pleasant. With the authors keen insights and humanization of the grim story, he chronologically steps through this history and is excellent in his examination and depiction of how a new Saharawi identity, culture, and social order has been developed in the refugee camps.
