Summary:An historical and architectural study of the former convent and Church of Saint Francis in Cartagena, today the abandoned Theater Colon. The author analyzes the current state of conservation of the property, the former church of the religious order of the Franciscans and the first building built in the suburb of Getsemaní in Cartagena de Indias in 1555. This research rescues the intrinsic value of this building, its important historical past and its constructive and aesthetic heritage value, highlighting its architecture and its role not only as a Catholic temple, but also as the place where in its spacious atrium and plaza, in November 1811, the war of independence in Colombia was first decalred.
