Summary: | Aeronautical engineer and executive Wanda Austin was born on September 8, 1954 in New York City. She graduated from Bronx High School of Science and went on to receive her B.S. degree in 1975 from Franklin and Marshall College, and her M.S. degrees from the University of Pittsburgh in 1977. Austin began working with The Aerospace Corporation in 1979 as a member of the technical staff, although she quickly established herself within the organization and rose through the managerial ranks. Austin received her Ph.D. degree from the University of Southern California in 1988 while managing developments within the satellite communications systems for the United States Air Force. Over the course of her career, Austin garnered recognition for her leadership and her work in satellite and payload system acquisition and engineering. In 2008, she was unanimously selected by The Aerospace Corporation board of trustees to become the organization's president and chief executive officer.
