Summary: | Circuit court judge the Honorable DeLawrence Beard was born on December 26, 1937 in Okolona, Arkansas. After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1959, he went to the University of Missouri, where he earned a B.A. degree in 1964. Beard graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1970, and earned an LL.M. degree from Georgetown University in 1977. Although he did not begin practicing law until 1974, Beard rose quickly. He began as a juvenile court prosecutor and moved to felony cases in 1975. He became a judge in 1982, and in 1996, he was named chief judge for the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court, Maryland. Beard was also appointed adjunct professor of law at the University of Maryland and American University, and guest lectured to incarcerated individuals. He received numerous awards, including honors from the governor of Maryland for his meritorious service to the state.
