Summary: | Attorney Robert Bennett was born on April 14, 1947 in Columbus, Georgia. Graduating with a B.A. degree in political science from Dartmouth University in 1969, Bennett spent the summer in Europe and North Africa. He completed Yale Law School in 1972. After working for several firms, Bennett opened his own practice in 1978, specializing in corporate and commercial transactions and real estate development. Bennett was also a supporter of the African National Congress for decades. He raised funds for Nelson Mandela in 1993 and organized a U.S. tour for Ghanaian President Jerry Rawlings. He was the honorary consul of Ghana from 1996 to 2002. As founder of Bennett and Bailey International Consulting, Bennett consulted on the King Shaka International Airport project and the West African Gas Pipeline, as well as on the film Ali. Bennett later engaged in a long-term consultancy and exchange with the Ghanaian justice system.
