Summary:Newspaper chief executive Robert Bogle was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1973, he graduated from Cheyney State College where he received his B.A. degree in urban studies. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business and Finance to study marketing and economics. Bogle was named advertising director for the The Philadelphia Tribune in 1973, and became director of marketing in 1977. In 1981, he was appointed executive vice president and treasurer, and, in 1989, he was promoted to president and chief executive officer. From 1991 to 1995, Bogle served as president of the National Newspaper Publishers Association. He has served on a number of boards, and is a founding member and president of the African American News and Information Consortium. Bogle was named one of Ebony magazine's 100 most influential black Americans. He was honored with the NNPA's prestigious Russwurm Award in 1995, 1997, and 1999.
