Summary: | Minister Reverend Shelvin Jerome Hall was born on May 3, 1916 in Yoakum, Texas. Hall attended and graduated from Bishop College in Marshall, Texas, and later graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a degree in high school administration. In 1955, Hall became pastor of Friendship Baptist Church on Chicago's West Side.. Hall was the only Chicago minister who welcomed Dr. King and Dr. King spoke at Friendship Baptist Church when he came to Chicago. Hall served as pastor there for fifty years. He held several leadership roles in Baptist Church organizations. He was dean of the Salem Baptist District Association and the Baptist General State Congress of Christian Education and president of the West Side Baptist Ministers Association. He also served two terms as president of the Baptist General State Convention of Illinois in the 1990s. Reverend Shelvin Jerome Hall passed away on May 21, 2007 at age 91.
