| Summary: | Politician Calvin Coolidge Goode was born on January 27, 1927 in Depew, Oklahoma. Goode's family moved to Arizona to work when he was just ten months old. He went on to serve a record twenty-two years as a representative to the Phoenix, Arizona City Council. Goode graduated from Carver High School and then obtained his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Arizona State University. After working for the Phoenix High School District until 1979, Goode was elected as the second African American at-large representative to the Phoenix City Council in 1972. As a Phoenix city councilman, Goode helped to broker a compromise that led to a Phoenix ordinance that prohibited workplace discrimination against gays, lesbians, and minorities. Goode was active with the local Neighborhood Improvement Association and the Booker T. Washington Child Development Center, the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center and other nonprofit and governmental programs.
