Summary:Academic administrator Robert L. Green was born on November 23, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan. He earned his B.A. degree in psychology in 1958 and his M.A. degree in educational psychology from San Francisco State College in 1960 and his Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 1963. In 1965, Green joined the Southern Christian Leadership Conference as the national education director, working for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. From 1968 through 1973, he served as the director of the Center for Urban Affairs at Michigan State University. In 1973, he became the dean of the College of Urban Development. From 1983 until 1985, Green was the president of the University of the District of Columbia. He eventually returned to MSU as Dean and Professor Emeritus of Urban Affairs. An expert on urban development and diversity, Green authored several books focusing on the impact of poverty and racial discrimination on urban populations.
