Summary: | Academic administrator, realtor and military officer, Lieutenant Colonel (ret) Donald Russell Campbell was born on September 14, 1935, in Elizabeth, Louisiana. Campbell obtained his A.A. degree from Phoenix College in Arizona in 1956, his B.A. degree in history and political science and his Ph.D. degree from Arizona State University in 1958 and 1980, respectively. From 1956 to 1964, he was a broker and partner for Webb, Williams, and Berry Realty. In 1961, Campbell joined the United States military beginning his twenty eight-year career with the Arizona Air National Guard. Except for duty with the Air National guard, from 1966 to 1969, Campbell worked for the City of Phoenix in the Human Resources Development Department. In 1972, he was elected to the Maricopa County Community College District Board, where he served for over thirty years. Campbell was an active member of numerous community organizations such as the Arizona Advisory Board and the NAACP.
