Summary:City government administrator and police officer Maxie L. Patterson was born on June 12, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Munford High School in 1962. Patterson worked for the Ford Motor Company until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1967. A decorated Vietnam war veteran, Patterson received his B.A. degree in 1973, and his M.A. degree in public administration in 1977, from Michigan State University. Patterson was appointed Albion, Michigan police chief in 1976, and became the police chief of Windsor, Connecticut in 1979. He accepted a position as assistant city manager of Beaumont, Texas in 1986, and moved to Houston, Texas to become deputy chief administrative officer in 1989. From 1992 to 1995, Patterson served as the deputy director and city treasurer. In 1997, he worked as executive director of Houston's Firefighter's Retirement Fund until 2005, when he became executive director of the Texas Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems.
