Summary:Surgeon Virgil C. Norris was born in 1929 in Tallahassee, Florida. He graduated with his B.S. degree from the Hampton Institute in 1950. Norris studied medicine at Meharry Medical College in Tennessee and received his M.D. degree in 1959. He practiced medicine in the Palm Beach area for forty years, entering into private practice from 1969, and serving on the staff of Bethesda Memorial Hospital and Delray Community Hospital. He was a member of the Palm Beach County Medical Society, the Florida Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the National Medical Association and the American College of Surgeons. Norris also took an active role in his community. He served as president of the Delray Club, Masonic Lodge, Naciremas Club and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He was a member of the NAACP, ACLU, Delray Board of Realtors and St. Paul A.M.E. Church. Norris passed away on October 29, 2014 at age 85.
