| Summary: | Educator Madeline R. Stratton Morris was born on August 14, 1906 in Chicago, Illinois. Morris earned her B.S. and M.S. degrees in education from Northwestern University, and did her graduate work at the University of Chicago. During her thirty-five years as a Chicago public school teacher, Morris was responsible for introducing black history into the city's public school curriculum. From 1958 to 1960, she served on the Human Relations Committee of the Chicago Board of Education. Morris undertook several projects relating to social studies curriculum development. She took her expertise to colleges after leaving the public school system in 1968. An active member of several African American civic groups, Morris also published monographs and articles on black history. Morris passed away on December 26, 2007 at the age of 101.
