| Summary: | Presidential diarist Janis F. Kearney was born in Gould, Arkansas on September 29, 1953. After graduating from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Kearney worked for the Arkansas State Government. By 1981, she was director of information for the Migrant Student Records Transfer System. In 1987, Kearney purchased the Arkansas State Press, a weekly newspaper she published until 1992 when she joined the Clinton-Gore presidential campaign. After serving as director of public affairs for the U.S. Small Business Administration, Kearney was named the first presidential diarist in U.S. history in 1995, and remained in that capacity until the end of Clinton's presidency. She served as a lecturer at Chicago City Colleges and wrote two books, Cotton Field of Dreams: A Memoir and Conversations: William Jefferson Clinton-From Hope to Harlem. Kearney published her first novel, Once Upon a Time There Was A Girl: A Murder at Mobile Bay, in 2008.
