Summary:Cable executive and education administrator Michael Scott was born on September 4, 1949, and was raised on Chicago's West Side. After graduating from Fordham University with his B.A. degree in urban planning, he worked for Pyramid West Development Corporation, which was active in the North Lawndale community. During Mayor Harold Washington's administration, Scott served as special assistant to the mayor in charge of communications as well as cable administrator for the City of Chicago. He remained active in government following Washington's death for several years before returning to the private sector, working in several executive positions in the cable industry. Returning to public service, Scott was president of the Chicago Park District before his 2001 appointment by Mayor Richard Daley as president of the Chicago Board of Education, where he worked actively to involve parents in the educational process. Scott passed away in Chicago on November 16, 2009, at age 60.
