Summary: | Public relations consultant Avis LaVelle was born on September 9, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. LaVelle attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she eventually majored in broadcasting. She later earned her M.S. degree in business administration from the Keller School of Management at DeVry University. After college, LaVelle worked at a radio station in Springfield, Illinois. Upon returning to Chicago, LaVelle spent several years working in the communications industry. By the early 1990s, she was serving as press secretary to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley. In 1992, LaVelle was picked by Bill Clinton to serve as his presidential campaign's national press secretary. Returning to Chicago after Clinton's successful bid for the presidency, she held a number of positions both in the government and the private sector. LaVelle served as Illinois campaign manager for the John Kerry-John Edwards 2004 presidential ticket and founded her own company, A. LaVelle Consulting Services LLC.
