Summary: | Art collector George R. N'Namdi was born September 12, 1946 in Columbus, Ohio. N'Namdi attended Felton Elementary School and Franklin and Champion junior high schools. He graduated from Columbus East High School in 1964 and earned his B.S. degree from Ohio State University in 1968. N'Namdi earned his M.S. degrees in education and psychology before obtaining a Ph.D. degree in psychology from the University of Michigan in 1974. In 1968, N'Namdi served as regional education director for Head Start. In the mid-1970s, he served as a therapist at Milan Federal Prison while teaching at the University of Michigan. In 1978, he and his wife, Carmen, founded the Nataki Talibah School House. In 1981, he and a partner opened Jazzonia Gallery. In 1982, N'Namdi launched his family-based G.R. N'Namdi Gallery. He owned galleries in Chicago and New York. N'Namdi worked to create a $3 million dollar arts complex in Detroit's cultural center district.
