Summary: | Restaurant owner and operator Blanton Canady was born November 25, 1948, in West Point, Georgia. Canady earned his B.A. degree from the University of Illinois in 1970; and his M.B.A. degree at the University of Chicago in 1975. While attending graduate school, he worked for Illinois Bell. He worked briefly for Xerox before moving American Hospital Supply in 1976. In 1980, a chance conversation during an airline trip led him to his profession: McDonald's franchise owner. He attended McDonald's management training school. With help from his brothers Ronald and Mitchell, Canady purchased his first store and expanded his franchise. He owned seven Chicago area restaurants, including locations at McCormick's Place, Navy Pier, and 2 Illinois Center. Canady was active on several boards, including the National Black McDonald's Operators Association (NBMOA), and the Midwest Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation, and the New South Planning Board and the Ronald McDonald's House Foundation.
