Summary: | Playwright and actress Saundra Pearl Sharp was born on December 21, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio. Sharp attended Fulton Elementary school. Graduating from John Adams High School in 1960, Sharp earned her B.S. degree from Bowling Green State University. In New York City, she won roles in Black Girl, and Hello Dolly in 1967. In 1969, she was cast in Gordon Parks' The Learning Tree. Her other credits include Minstrel Man and Hollow Image. Sharp published several books, including From the Windows of My Mind, In the Midst of Change, Soft Song and Typing in the Dark. In 1993, she published Black Women for Beginners: A Writers & Readers Documentary Comic Book. Sharp was also a playwright, and penned The Sistuhs in 1975. As a filmmaker, Sharp directed Back Inside Herself, Life is a Saxophone, Picking Tribes, It's OK to Peek, The Healing Passage and Fertile Ground: Stories from the Watts Towers Arts Center.
