Summary:BET executive Louis Carr was born May 3, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois. Carr earned his B.A. degree in broadcast journalism from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1978. Carr worked as a customer service representative for Bankers Life Insurance Company, then he joined New York Life Insurance Company. In 1984, Carr joined the Johnson Publishing Company as a salesman. In 1985, Carr was hired by Black Enterprise magazine and then by BET. Carr was tasked to convince sponsors of the viability of BET'S African-American market. Carr was eventually named president of media sales for BET, overseeing strategic plans to generate revenue for BET and its affiliate networks. Carr served as CEO and president of TV, LLC. He also served as the chairman of the Louis Carr Internship Foundation, providing paid internships to students of color. He was also on the board of directors of the The Advertising Council.
