Summary:Venture capitalist and private equity investor Cleveland A. Christophe was born January 1, 1946, in Savannah, Georgia. He earned his B.S. degree from Howard University in 1966; and his M.B.A. degree from the University of Michigan in 1967. Christophe began his career with First National City Bank as the first African American M.B.A. in the bank's investment research department. He was promoted to vice president in 1974. He held various senior positions in Citibank. In 1987, Christophe left banking to join his friend Reginald F. Lewis at TLC Group. Together, they acquired the Beatrice International Food Company for $1 billion. In 1990, he joined Equico Capital Corp, and in 1992, Christophe and partners acquired control of Equico, renaming it TSG Ventures, Inc. By 1999, TSG Capital Group was one of the largest minority-run firms in the United States. In 2009, he became president of US&S, Inc. He retired in 2013.
