Summary: | Corporate executive and civic leader Les Coney was born on April 28, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Coney earned his B.A. degree from George Williams College in Downers Grove, Illinois, in 1980. Coney taught at Potential Elementary School in Chicago. He began his corporate career with Traveler's Insurance Company and United Health Care. At United Health Care, he was director of key accounts and national sales director. Coney spent eight years at AON Corporation as senior managing director. In 2006, Coney joined Mesirow Financial as executive vice president and senior managing director. Coney also worked as co-chair of the Democratic National Committee. He was the first African American chairman of the board of directors at Chicago's Goodman Theater. Coney served as vice-chair of the DuSable Museum of African American History; founding chairman of the Congo Square Theater; trustee of Roosevelt University; trustee of the Kohl Children's Museum; and trustee, Athletes Against Drugs.
