Summary:State court judge Brenda H. Cole was born on January 25, 1943 in Joaquin, Texas. Cole earned her B.A. degree from Spelman College in Atlanta; her M.A degree in library science at Atlanta University; her J.D. degree from Emory University in Atlanta. Cole began her career as the assistant attorney general in the Fiscal Affairs Division of the Georgia State Law Department. She and her family moved to West Virginia, where Cole worked as counsel for the West Virginia Department of Corrections in Charleston, West Virginia. She then served as assistant attorney general in the Tax Division, and as deputy attorney general of the West Virginia Environmental and Energy Division. In 1988, she returned to Atlanta and rejoined the Georgia State Law Department as deputy attorney general, before her appointment as a Georgia State Court Judge in 1988. In 2012, she was appointed a senior judge of the Georgia Court system.
