Summary: | Nonprofit chief executive Jewell Jackson McCabe was born on August 2, 1945 in Washington, D.C. McCabe graduated from New York High School of Performing Arts as a dance major in 1963. She attended Bard College until 1964. She married and moved to New York. McCabe's local and national career began with her working for the city of New York where she was quickly promoted to Director of Public Affairs at the New York Urban Coalition. McCabe joined a small group of women who were the first chapter of the New York Coalition of 100 Black Women. McCabe was appointed by President Clinton to the Holocaust Memorial Council and by former New York Governor Mario Cuomo to several councils. In 1993, McCabe was the first woman to make the "short list" for NAACP executive directorship. President of a corporate consulting firm, McCabe advised numerous companies including American Express. McCabe served on numerous boards.
