Summary:Foundation executive Handy Lindsey, Jr. was born on March 24, 1952 in Louisville, Mississippi. His family migrated to St. Louis, Missouri in 1958, and he attended Howard Elementary School. Following graduation from St. Louis University High School in 1971, Lindsey earned his B.A. degree, A.M. and M.B.A. degrees from the University of Chicago in 1975 and 1980, respectively. He then served as the assistant director for Chicago Community Trust before being appointed executive director for The Field Foundation of Illinois in 1988. Lindsey served as president and chief executive officer for The Cameron Foundation in Petersburg, Virginia. In 2003, the Chicago African Americans in Philanthropy (CAAIP) established an award honoring Lindsey for his leadership in advancing racial and ethnic diversity and inclusiveness in the field of philanthropy. He was vice chairman of Grantmakers for effective organization. Lindsey had over thirty years of experience in philanthropy, having served as manager for three foundations.
