Summary:Newspaper columnist and journalism professor E. Lee Lassiter was born on July 11, 1936 in Carpenter, North Carolina. Lassiter received his B.A. degree in secondary education from Tuskegee University in 1959. He earned his M.A. degree in journalism from Boston University in 1963, and his Ed.D. degree from Morgan State University in 1994. After a year serving in the U.S. Army as a correspondence officer and technical writer, Lassiter worked on the editorial staff of the Baltimore Afro-American newspaper from 1961 to 1965. In 1965, he moved to the Baltimore News-American newspaper where he worked on the editorial staff and had a nationally syndicated column. In 1986, Lassiter accepted a position as an associate professor of English at Coppin State University in Baltimore. He retired from teaching in 1999 and joined the public relations team for the university. From 2003, Lassiter worked as a public relations associate from home.
