Summary: | Marathoner and accountant Anthony R. Reed was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on July 2, 1955. He graduated from Webster University with his B.A. degrees in mathematics and business in 1978. Reed earned his M.B.A. degree with a concentration in management from Abilene Christian University in 1982. In 1992, he earned his M.S. degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Dallas. Reed has worked as a certified public accountant (CPA), certified project management professional (PMP) and a certified long-distance running coach. He served as a technology manager and executive for various Dallas area corporations, educational institutions, and consulting firms before launching his own accounting and consulting business, Anthony Reed CPA P.C. in 1994. Reed's self-published memoir, Running Shoes Are Cheaper Than Insulin, chronicles his experience as the first African American to participate in marathons in all seven continents, including Antarctica. In 2004, Reed co-founded the National Black Marathoners Association (NBMA).
