| Summary: | Healthcare administrator Terry Mason was born on September 13, 1951, and raised in the Englewood community located on Chicago's South Side. He attended Loyola University in Chicago to receive his B.S. in biological science. He earned his Ph.D. degree from the Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine at the University of Illinois in 1978. Upon completing his residencies, Mason secured a position at Comprehensive Urology later to become head of a treatment program for impotent men and their partners at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center. As Chicago's Public Health Commissioner, Mason's work focused on improving the lives of African Americans through proper dieting. His work became instrumental in the campaign to stop unhealthy eating habits amongst African Americans and to "re-start" body systems by encouraging smart food choices. In 2009, Mason retired as Commissioner of Public Health. He served as national chairman of urology at the National Medical Association.
