Summary:Model and educator Rashid Keith Dilworth Silvera was born on December 8, 1947 in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from Bennington College in 1972 with his B.A. degree in political science and anthropology. Silvera obtained his M.T.S. degree from Harvard Divinity School in 1974 and his Ed. M. degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1976. Working initially as a history teacher at the Buckingham Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge, the New Jersey Gill St. Bernard's School, San Francisco's University High School and Rye New York's Country Day School, he began teaching at Scarsdale New York's High School in 1981. He was noticed by owners of a modeling agency, launching his second career as a model in the early 1980s. The fourth African American male model on the cover of GQ magazine, he was also the first African American to model for a Polo Ralph Lauren advertisement campaign. He appeared on the covers of Essence and CODE magazines.
