Summary: | Physician and entrepreneur Tony Coles was born in 1960 in Washington, D.C. he earned his B.S. degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland; his M.S. degree in public health from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts; and, his M.D. degree from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Coles completed his cardiology and internal medicine training at Massachusetts General Hospital, and was a research fellow at Harvard Medical School. He was hired at Merck & Co. in 1992 where he held the position of Vice President of the Hypertension and Heart Failure Business Group. In 1996, he moved to Bristol-Myers Pharmaceuticals. Coles was hired at Vertex Pharmaceuticals in 2002 as Senior Vice President. He was hired as president and CEO of Onyx Pharmaceuticals in 2008. Coles worked for Yumanity Therapeutics, a startup biotech company, as president and CEO in 2014. The company specialized in biopharmaceutical research in Alzheimer and Parkinson's diseases.
