Summary:Military officer and politician Floyd Griffin was born on May 24, 1944 in Milledgeville, Georgia. Griffin earned his A.S. degree from Grupton Jones College of Funeral Service, his B.S. degree from the Tuskegee Institute and his M.S. degree in contract procurement and management from Florida Institute of Technology. He graduated from Army Command and General Staff College and the National War College. Griffin's twenty-three year U.S. Army career began in 1967 as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, retiring as a colonel in 1990. Elected state senator from the 25th District of Georgia in 1994, Griffin ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor in 1998. Griffin lost re-election to his Senate seat and was defeated in the 2000 primary election. He was elected Mayor of Milledgeville in 2001. In 2016, Griffin ran for the Georgia House of Representatives, losing to his opponent. Griffin served as vice president of a family-owned funeral home.
