Summary:Professor and activist Angela Davis was born on January 26, 1944, in Birmingham, Alabama. She earned her B.S. degree from Brandeis University in 1965; her M.A. degree from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and her Ph.D. degree from Humboldt State University in Arcata, California. She began her academic career teaching at UCSD in 1969. But Governor Ronald Reagan objected to her ties to the Communist Party and pressed for her dismissal.
