| Summary: | Educator and government administrator Richard Fairley was born on July 16, 1933, in Washington, D.C. He attended Dartmouth College and went on to earn his M.A. degree from Stanford University, he earned his Ed.D. degree from the University of Massachusetts in 1974. During the 1960s, Fairley began his work with the U.S. Department of Education, where he helped integrate the University of Alabama football team and eliminate segregation in six southern states. Continuing on with the Department of Education, he continued to rise, serving as associate commissioner of education and deputy assistant secretary. He served later as executive vice president of the University of the District of Columbia and executive director of the University Center at the Agency for International Development. He founded and served as president of CRF & Associates, an educational consulting firm. Fairley and his wife lived in Annapolis, Maryland. He passed away on July 24, 2006 at age 73.
