Summary:The 26th International President of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority, Inc. Linda M. White was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 21, 1942, and grew up in Chicago. Attending Clark College, she joined Alpha Kappa Alpha, an African American sorority. Earning her M.A. degree from the University of Chicago, White moved to Washington, D.C. to work as a management analyst in the Department of Health and Human Services before returning to Chicago to work as a social security area director. When she retired in 2002, White devoted herself full time to AKA, taking over as national president. She pushed to use technology to facilitate communication for the group and outlined several program targets for service to the black community. White also served as national president of AKA's educational foundation. She sat on the board of the United Negro College Fund, became a life member of the NAACP and remained active in her church. She passed away February 26, 2010.
