| Summary: | Educator and nonprofit executive Barbara Williams-Skinner was born on December 23, 1943 in Antioch, California. Williams-Skinner completed her undergraduate degree at San Francisco State University, earning her M.S.W. degree from the University of California, Berkeley and her J.D. degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. Williams-Skinner worked as administrative assistant for Congressman Ronald Dellums, before becoming executive director of the Congressional Black Caucus. In 1992, she and her husband, the Reverend Tom Skinner, founded the Skinner Leadership Institute, dedicated to training a generation of spiritually mature, technically sound leaders. The Institute aimed to attract people of all backgrounds and faiths, especially current and emerging leaders, to instill them with a commitment to reconciliation and advocacy for the physically and spiritually needy. Continuing his work after Skinner passed away on June 17, 1994, Williams-Skinner served on boards of several organizations, writing many articles on spiritual and racial leadership.
